Global Category Manager Would you like to be responsible for managing global sourcing activities within primarily direct spend categories? About the role
You will be part of our Global Procurement department in DESMI currently consisting of 3 category managers in DK and 3 category managers in China (dotted line). You will report directly to the Global Procurement Manager and work out of Nørresundby, Denmark. In your role as Category Manager, you will have the strategic sourcing responsibility for direct spend primarily centered around electrical control panels, electrical components, and 3rd party pumps. DESMI’s solid position and growth perspectives within the areas of ballast water treatment systems, Automation solutions and scrubber projects make this position particular important and interesting. In addition, you will get the responsibility for DESMI’s freight and packaging spend. We are successfully working towards earlier engagement and deeper integration of Global Procurement in connection to both sales and development projects, supported by a company-wide formalization of business processes. This gives you an opportunity to play a crucial role in shaping initiatives related to optimization of cost and supply chain. To deliver on such expectations, you shall expect to cooperate with several stakeholders throughout R&D, Sales, and Operations on different levels and in different geographical regions.
Your primary tasks will be:
Optimization of TCO by creating and shaping DESMI’s supply chain within the select categories:
• Category and supply chain optimizations, ensuring implementation, anchoring and follow-up
• Leading the implementation of defined sourcing levers and finding synergy effects in working with cross-functional teams (category management)
• Building up close relationship with key suppliers (SRM) and internal stakeholders
• Negotiation and contract management for both individual projects and quotations as well as for frame agreements
• Supplier management - supplier approval and evaluation
• Ensuring implementation of defined procurement processes in cooperation with stakeholders, especially within Sales, Engineering and Projects
Your qualifications
We are looking for a person with a very good techno-commercial understanding and background. Ideally, you have +5 years’ experience within a strategic procurement environment. Alternatively, you have an engineering or sales background supplemented by relevant job experience providing wide and deep insights into Procurement practice. Certainly, a strong technical understanding and practical experience working with the related categories will be considered advantages. You have good knowledge and understanding of both the strategic sourcing process, the category management concept, and contractual frameworks (purchase agreements). Strong negotiation skills in combination with good business acumen puts you in a position where putting together fact-packs in preparation for negotiations falls natural to you. Similarly, you are able to think creatively in finding acceptable solutions for both parties. As you will be part of a major transformation of how DESMI looks at and performs Global Procurement activities, you will be expected to appreciate, embrace and manifest changes throughout the organization to put Procurement interests on the agenda. Others see you as an independent person with a strong drive, getting your energy from achieving goals and doing so in cooperation with your stakeholders. As a team player, you thrive on working in an international environment with many different stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are imperative.
