Global Category Manager, Motors

The Global Category Manager for motors will be located regionally in one of DESMI’s offices in Europe but will report directly to Global Sourcing & Procurement Manager and will be part of the Global Sourcing & Procurement Team.

You will be the lead Global Category manager, and in collaboration with peers in China, ensure we meet market requirements in both Asia, Europe and US. You will work with both sales directors to identify market requirements, and production directors to ensure competitive cost and supply chain resilience.

The motor category is 20M EUR in spend, 63% in Asia, 37% in Europe. Spend across all DESMI´s product range, low volume high mix. 

Key responsibilities and tasks:

• Overall responsible for the sourcing strategy for motors globally, ensuring the right balance of cost and resilience according to regional market requirements.
  • Define and implement motor sourcing strategy and contractual framework.
  • Negotiations, frame agreement, VMI and specific high value project
  • Governance and improve category performance.
• Ensure, present monthly reports and improve performance from motor suppliers across regions. Make route course analysis and coordinate actions with regional category manager and local purchases until the targets and balance of category performance is reached.

  • Should cost analysis, price performance & Cost down potential (Price development on part number level, supplier level and category level)
• Categorization of part numbers and ensuring updated motor master data in DESMI´s ERP & CPQ system.
• Manage vendor relationships, negotiation & contract
• Manage vendor inventory and vendor lead time
• Manage surplus stock to vendor
• Manage supplier commitment, and category management framework supporting regional/local category managers

Your profile
The position requires high proficiency in English, both written and verbally. You need proven experience in category management, global sourcing or strategic purchasing, in a global manufacturing company (production/machinery industry).

Ideally you have worked as category manager with Electrical motors, and other electrical components. Overall, the position requires an analytic and commercial mindset, with a high level of general business understanding. You need to be self-driven, solution-oriented and pragmatic, with skills and ability to engage with others, both across borders and functions.

In addition, you possess the following capabilities and competencies:

• Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience from a similar position
• Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management principles.
• Experienced with procurement risk mitigation and resilience management.
• Proficiency in using category management software and tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make strategic decisions.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Knowledge of market research techniques and familiarity with market research tools

• Understanding of technical specification, experience within Electrical motor technology will be an advantage,
• Ability to work in a global organization, where corporation, involvement and honesty are important,
• Analytic, structured, and excellent excel capabilities,
• Passionate about procurement

Expected travel days
Between 50-70 days per year
